My journey to the other side of the world in the name of love (and pomegranates)

Fes winter blues

So seeing as I am back in Morocco, I thought I had to at least write one blog entry. At the time of writing my last post last year, we had decided that I would next return mid 2012 for the wedding. But after having said goodbye and a very long sad plane ride later, I decided that 7 months was definitely too long to wait, and 24hours after returning home to Melbourne, I booked my ticket for this visit!
I have been here for 9 days, and I have less than 2 to go. A very long journey for such a short amount of time together. Karim came to meet me at the airport in Casablanca and the minute I saw him, I knew I had made the right decision to come back. Words can’t describe how amazing it is to be back with him.

Fes is just the same as I left it, except it is cold! The first time I ever came to Morocco it was in winter, but every time since I have been here in summer and when it is 30+ degrees and sunny for months on end, its hard to believe it would ever be any different! So while the days have mostly still been sunny, the nights have been getting down to zero or colder. (And yes, I know that’s not cold compared to the rest of Europe at the moment, but this is my first winter in 2.5 years so it’s cold enough for me!)

The first few days I spent in bed keeping warm and getting over my jetlag. Unfortunately, I have also spent the last few days in bed, with some sort of stupid throat infection. So not the ideal way to spend our limited amount of time together!  I’ve still managed to do a few things though –I’ve visited his family and caught up with some friends, we’ve organised stuff for the wedding (we now have a venue!), I’ve eaten all the foods I’ve missed, drunken lots of tea and I’ve been scrubbed pink in the hammam. To speed up my recovery I’ve been loading up on vitamin c from all the oranges and mandarins that are in season, and there are delicious winter strawberries too, but no pomegranates!

So that’s about it. A very short visit, which seems even shorter as I’ve spent most of the time in bed. I’ve still got my fingers crossed for a miraculous recovery before I have to leave on Wednesday morning. And then its goodbye to Morocco and my husband again, but this time for only 4.5 months. And then I will be back, and it will be summer and hopefully many of you will join us for the wedding!

Sleeping Karim. It might be cold outside, but the blankets are super warm!
